About This Expression
Russell's Reserve 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a personal masterpiece crafted by distilling royalty—master distiller Jimmy Russell and his son Eddie Russell, who together possess more than a century of combined bourbon-making experience at Wild Turkey. Created by Eddie to honor his father's lifelong dedication to the craft, Russell's Reserve 10 Year reflects a meticulous barrel selection process designed to highlight a softer, more refined, and elegantly aged expression of the distillery's iconic high-rye mash bill.
Distilled and matured in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, at the Wild Turkey Distillery, this bourbon is aged for a full decade in the heart of the distillery's historic wooden-clad rickhouses. The Russells personally select barrels exclusively from the middle tiers—floors three, four, and five—of their multi-story aging warehouses. On these central floors, temperatures remain moderate and consistent year-round, protecting the aging barrels from the scorching heat of the upper floors and the damp chill of the ground level. This optimal microclimate allows the bourbon to age gracefully for ten years without becoming overly tannic or drying.
Russell's Reserve is distilled from Wild Turkey's classic mash bill comprising 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley. Fermented with Wild Turkey's proprietary legacy yeast and distilled at low proof to retain rich grain congeners, the spirit is barreled into new American white oak casks bearing Wild Turkey's signature Level 4 "alligator" char. Over ten full years of maturation, the thick carbon char filters the distillate while the caramelized wood sugars infuse the whiskey with deep amber color, rich vanillin, toasted wood sugars, and seasoned oak complexities.
Bottled at 45% alcohol by volume (90 proof), Russell's Reserve 10 Year strikes an exquisite harmony between mature wood complexity and easy-drinking elegance. The ten years of patient aging provide a smooth, velvety mouthfeel laden with notes of rich toffee, dark honey, toasted almonds, dried apricots, and seasoned oak. The 90-proof bottling strength ensures that the sophisticated spice of the rye and the sweetness of the corn unfold across the palate with complete finesse and zero harshness.
This bourbon is best savored neat in a classic Glencairn or rocks glass, allowing the aromas of baking spice, cedar, and vanilla bean to develop in the glass. When served over a single clear ice sphere, the gentle chilling effect coaxes out bright citrus zest and creamy butterscotch notes. It also makes an exceptionally smooth and balanced Old Fashioned or Boulevardier, where the ten-year oak age adds sophisticated depth without overpowering delicate cocktail vermouths and bitters.
Russell's Reserve 10 Year is the ultimate choice for bourbon drinkers who prize mature, age-stated Kentucky craftsmanship at a gentle, refined proof. It serves as an impressive gift for discerning hosts, a versatile daily sipper for the connoisseur, and an enduring tribute to the legendary Russell distilling lineage.
