About This Expression

Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2015 is a regal, Pinot Noir-dominated prestige cuvée created in tribute to Madame Clicquot, the legendary "Grande Dame de la Champagne." Widely recognized as one of the most visionary business pioneers in history, Madame Clicquot took control of the house in 1805 at the age of twenty-seven, inventing the riddling table in 1816 and creating the very first recorded vintage champagne. La Grande Dame represents the pinnacle of Veuve Clicquot's winemaking, expressing Madame Clicquot's famous maxim: "Only one quality, the finest."

Produced in Reims, La Grande Dame 2015 is an extraordinary showcase of the house's historic Grand Cru terroir. Madame Clicquot famously believed that Pinot Noir was the beating heart and structural soul of great Champagne, providing power, longevity, and gastronomic versatility. For the 2015 vintage, cellar master Didier Mariotti composed a bold blend composed of 90% Pinot Noir sourced from historic Grand Cru parcels in Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay, Bouzy, and Aÿ, complemented by 10% Chardonnay from the Grand Cru of Avize.

The 2015 growing season produced grapes of exceptional phenolic concentration and aromatic maturity. Following fermentation, the wine underwent slow secondary fermentation and matured for over seven years on its lees in the UNESCO-listed Gallo-Roman chalk cellars (Crayères) beneath Reims. This prolonged lees aging allowed the powerful, structured Pinot Noir to soften, infusing the wine with delicate brioche notes, fine perlage, and velvety textural richness.

La Grande Dame 2015 pours a radiant golden yellow with brilliant amber glints and a silky, persistent effervescence. The nose is aromatic and generous, offering notes of white peach, fresh jasmine, candied pear, dried apricot, and lemon curd, accented by subtle roasted hazelnuts and fresh pastry. On the palate, the 90% Pinot Noir delivers immense structural depth and vinous weight, balancing juicy citrus and red berry fruits with crisp mineral tension and gentle chalky tannins, resolving into a long, clean, and remarkably refreshing finish.

La Grande Dame 2015 should be served at ten to twelve degrees Celsius in a white wine glass to allow its vinous complexity to bloom. It is a stunning gastronomic champagne, pairing beautifully with garden vegetables, roasted chicken with morels, seared duck breast, or fresh seafood.

This bottle is a magnificent acquisition for lovers of full-bodied, Pinot Noir-forward champagne, a prestigious gift for celebrations, and an enduring tribute to one of the greatest figures in wine history.

With 90% Pinot Noir sourced from historic Grand Cru villages, La Grande Dame 2015 showcases the structural power, vinous weight, and longevity that Madame Clicquot championed two centuries ago. The seven years of maturation in ancient Gallo-Roman chalk cellars have softened the powerful tannins, creating a velvety, gastronomic champagne that pairs beautifully with roast chicken, duck breast, fresh seafood, or aged Gruyère cheese.

When presenting La Grande Dame 2015 at the table, its bold gastronomic nature makes it an extraordinary partner for an entire multi-course dinner rather than simply an aperitif. The dominant Pinot Noir framework provides the structural weight necessary to pair effortlessly with roasted turbot, truffled poultry, aged hard cheeses, or seared duck breast, making every occasion feel like an aristocratic celebration.
