About This Expression
Casamigos Añejo Tequila is an ultra-premium, smooth sipping tequila that helped transform the modern tequila industry. Founded in 2013 by longtime friends George Clooney, Rande Gerber, and Mike Meldman, Casamigos—which translates warmly to "House of Friends"—was originally conceived as a private, exclusive house tequila for their private homes in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The goal was simple yet exacting: to create the smoothest, best-tasting tequila in the world that could be enjoyed all night without the need for lime or salt.
The tequila is produced in the highlands of Jesús María, Jalisco, utilizing 100% Blue Weber agave hand-selected from the red clay soils of the Los Altos region. Casamigos harvests only mature agaves that have grown for seven to nine years to maximize sugar content. The harvested agave piñas are slow-roasted in traditional masonry brick ovens for seventy-two hours, a process that is twice as long as standard industrial cooking, allowing the natural starches to caramelize into deep, sweet agave nectar.
Following roasting, the agave is crushed and subjected to an extra-slow fermentation process lasting eighty hours—utilizing a proprietary yeast blend to foster rich, dessert-like esters. After double distillation in copper pot stills, Casamigos Añejo is matured for fourteen full months in premium American white oak barrels that previously held American whiskey. This fourteen-month slumber in oak imparts rich caramel, vanilla, and toasted coconut notes while preserving the sweet, roasted character of the agave.
Bottled at 40% alcohol by volume (80 proof), Casamigos Añejo pours a warm, radiant caramel gold. The nose is inviting and confectionery, filled with aromas of soft caramel, vanilla custard, roasted agave, cocoa powder, and toasted oak. On the palate, it delivers an exceptionally silky, velvety mouthfeel, offering flavors of rich butterscotch, milk chocolate, sweet dried fruit, vanilla bean, and gentle baking spices, followed by a crisp, sweet, and remarkably smooth finish with zero burn.
Casamigos Añejo is designed to be sipped neat, over a large clear ice cube, or as an elevated base for a luxury Añejo Old Fashioned. It is an effortless crowd-pleaser that appeals to both seasoned tequila drinkers and newcomers alike.
This bottle is the ultimate companion for casual evenings with friends, an impressive gift for celebrations, and an essential bottle for any contemporary home bar.
