About This Expression
Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey is an award-winning, groundbreaking expression that helped spearhead the modern renaissance of independent Irish craft distilling. Founded in 2015 by Jack and Stephen Teeling—whose family ancestors first distilled whiskey in Dublin in 1782—Teeling was the very first new distillery to open its doors in Dublin in over one hundred and twenty-five years. Located in the historic Newmarket square of the Liberties district, Teeling single-handedly revived the capital city's storied distilling heritage with a focus on non-chill filtration and daring, multi-cask finishing.
Teeling Single Malt is crafted exclusively from 100% malted barley, triple-distilled in traditional Italian-crafted copper pot stills. Unlike conventional single malts that rely solely on bourbon and sherry wood, Teeling embarked on a pioneering maturation project utilizing five distinct wine casks: Spanish Sherry butts, Portuguese Port pipes, Portuguese Madeira drums, French White Burgundy barriques, and California Cabernet Sauvignon barrels.
By marrying malt whiskies aged across these five distinct fortified and dry wine casks, Teeling achieves an astonishingly vibrant, multi-layered flavor profile. The white wine and Madeira casks contribute bright stone fruit, melon, and floral citrus notes; the port and red wine casks infuse dark berry fruits and rich wood tannins; and the sherry wood adds deep raisins, toasted nuts, and warming spice. The resulting blend is bottled at 46% alcohol by volume (92 proof) without chill filtration, preserving its rich texture and natural essential oils.
Teeling Single Malt pours a bright, glistening amber gold. The aroma is extraordinarily fruity and aromatic, wafting with notes of ripe white melon, figs, toffee, dried grapes, lemon blossom, and sweet vanilla. On the palate, it delivers a silky, balanced mouthfeel filled with flavors of dried apricots, red berries, candied citrus, clove spice, and toasted oak, followed by a long, elegant, and harmonious finish that balances sweet fruit with dry European wood tannins.
This single malt is best enjoyed neat in a Glencairn glass or with a few drops of water, which amplifies the delicate tropical fruit and floral wine notes. It also makes an exceptional base for a sophisticated Rob Roy or Dublin Sour, and pairs wonderfully with glazed duck, fruit tarts, creamy goat cheese, or roasted nuts.
Teeling Single Malt is the ideal choice for single malt enthusiasts looking for an innovative, fruit-forward Irish whiskey. It serves as a fantastic gift for whiskey adventurers, an exciting discovery pour, and an indispensable addition to any modern spirits collection.
By leveraging five distinct wine cask finishes—Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy, and Cabernet Sauvignon—Teeling Single Malt achieves a symphony of fruit and oak complexity rarely found in contemporary Irish whiskey. The non-chill filtered 46% ABV strength delivers a full, velvety texture that carries notes of dried apricot, red berry coulis, and toasted wood spice across the mid-palate, making it an extraordinary pairing with artisan charcuterie, roasted duck, or dark fruit desserts.
